Tens of thousands of people worldwide cannot access Microsoft Teams or Outlook

According to Microsoft, it has "rolled back a network change" that it believes may have been the cause of tens of thousands of users being unable to access its services, including Teams and Outlook, worldwide. A website outage tracking tool called Downdetector revealed that more than 5,000 users in the UK had reported that the email service Outlook was unavailable. There have also been reports of issues with Teams and Xbox Live. As the change takes effect, Microsoft stated that it was "monitoring the service." In a previous statement, the company claimed that it had "isolated the problem to networking configuration issues" and was determining the "best mitigation strategy to address these without causing additional impact." Additionally, Microsoft stated that it was looking into a connectivity problem with its cloud computing service, Azure, affecting "a subset of users." More than 280 million people use Microsoft Teams worldwide, mostly in businesses and educational institutions where it can be extremely useful for calls, meetings, and general service organization. Downdetector claims that issues have been reported in numerous nations, with thousands of reports just in India and Japan. The Microsoft 365 status page lists SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Graph, PowerBi, and Microsoft 365 Admin Center as the other services impacted in addition to Teams and Outlook. Any user served by the impacted infrastructure "may not be able to access multiple Microsoft 365 services," according to the page. Sales decline and jobs lost The outage occurs a day after Microsoft revealed that its quarterly revenue increased by only 2%, to $52.7 billion (£42.8 billion), while overall profits fell by 12%, to $16.4 billion. The company has experienced its smallest quarterly increase in more than six years as a result of the slowdown in sales. Microsoft announced on January 19 that it would cut 10,000 jobs from its workforce, or about 5%. It is the most recent round of layoffs to affect the tech sector, and the business will incur severance and reorganization costs of $1.2 billion. An inquiry for comment has been made to Microsoft.
