Everton fired Lampard following their loss to West Ham

After less than a year in charge at Goodison Park, Everton fired manager Frank Lampard. Everton lost against fellow underdog West Ham United on Saturday, their ninth defeat in 12 Premier League games. With 15 points from 20 games, they are second from the bottom of the standings, surpassing Southampton on goal differential. In January 2022, with the team 16th in the standings, former England midfielder Lampard, 44, took Rafael Benitez's place and helped Everton avoid relegation. Everton is currently seeking its sixth permanent manager in the past five years. All season, they have only been able to win three games. In recent games, there have been numerous, loud fan protests against the board, and following the defeat to Southampton, fans staged a sit-in protest. Due to what the club described as a "real and credible threat to their safety," the Everton board of directors was unable to attend that game. Before Everton announced that "enhanced security procedures" would be implemented, Merseyside Police reported that no threats or incidents had been reported to officers prior to the game. Additionally, it was in response to some fans yelling at defender Yerry Mina and midfielder Anthony Gordon as they drove away from Goodison Park the previous weekend. Farhad Moshiri, the owner of Everton, and Bill Kenwright, the long-serving chairman who has faced harsh criticism, both attended their first game in 14 months at West Ham. When asked about Lampard's future by Sky Sports at the game, Moshiri said that decision was not up to him. Although the club hasn't made any signings in the January transfer window, it spent more than £80 million in the summer, including £33 million to sign Amadou Onana from Lille and £20 million to buy Dwight McNeil from Burnley after receiving £60 million from Tottenham for Brazilian forward Richarlison. With Derby, Lampard made his managerial debut in 2018. They made it to the Championship Play-Off Final during his one season as manager, where they fell to Aston Villa. In July 2019, he took over as manager of Chelsea for Maurizio Sarri, but he was fired after only 18 months. Everton was 16th in the standings when Lampard took over at Goodison, six points above the drop zone. Everton lost 10 of their final 18 games, but their 3-2 comeback victory over Crystal Palace, which Lampard referred to as "one of the greatest nights of my career," ensured their survival. Only 12 of Lampard's 44 games as manager saw victories in all competitions, resulting in a win percentage of 27.27, which is significantly lower than his results at Derby (42.1%) and Chelsea (52.4%).
